Oversized fliers – a touchy subject…

I’m a fairly thin person. Let me get that out first.
I have been in a situation of being shoved in an airplane seat next to someone who “morphs” over into what I consider my temporarily rented space. It was not a pleasant flight but thank God a short one since I am not sure I had enough room to vault over the person to get to the restroom.
This subject is touchy though since I have also had to sit near or next to screaming, twisting, fidgeting children – a flight that was much worse by comparison. Those little fliers paid LESS than I did for my seat.
Charging an overweight person more for a seat could open a floodgate of new “overrage” charges for any number of new reasons. Non-invasive fliers will still suffer and the airlines will just make more money. And who will make the call as to which fliers meet the overweight surcharge? Will people be pulled out of line and charged on the spot? Will we now be asked how much we weigh when booking a flight by phone or internet?
Sounds like another invasion of privacy issue to me and as I said, a touchy subject to open…

Stories like that makes me personally very depressed, I understand it is really cleache to say if we are able to all simply get along, but how much more of this are people gonna put up with?

Every time something like this hits the headlines, it opens another area of potential discrimination and the “You’re ok, you are not” selection process. Not good…
