Travel Wishes – Destination "E"
by admin on Feb.09, 2010, under Destinations
Our “E” destination is on the “E”ast Coast of the United States in Howard County Maryland – Ellicott City.
As the third wealthiest county in the United States, and with it’s 3 times in 5 years ranking as one of the best places to live in the US, Howard County and Ellicott City Maryland deserve consideration for your next country vacation or a long-weekend getaway.
History of Ellicott City

Ellicott City is said to have been built on seven hills, much like Rome. A tributary of the Patapsco River which runs along the town’s edge, is called the Tiber. This town is full of history – most of it not quite “ancient”, but this former mill, mining, and manufacturing town has much to offer modern-day travelers. Just beware – this is rumored to be one of the most haunted towns in America…sounds like fun to me!

Shopping on Historic Main Street
The historic main street would be called “High Street” if it were in England and an English country town will come to mind as you tour historic Ellicott City. Park in the Court House parking lot and take the haunted city tour – with spirits of both types provided, tour the B & O Railroad Museum, or visit the rustic 1780′s log cabin built by Thomas Issac.

Thomas Issac Cabin
Located at the intersection of Main St. and Ellicott Mills Drive, visitors here will learn about the settlement and development of the region from authentically costumed historians and artisans.
Looking for one-of-a-kind and antique furniture? My first stop would definitely be Fox Run Antiques.
Savage Mill – a shopping extravaganza!
Historic Savage Mill is a 19th century former textile mill also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Artist studios, handmade clocks and quilts, a wide variety of antiques, and unique handmade jewelry await you. Quench your thirst and your appetite at any of the Mill’s fine bistros and taverns. Check out some special coupon offers before you go, compliments the Howard County web site.
