Holiday Cottages in the United Kingdom...

The United Kingdom, or "UK" as it is known, is actually made up of four countries...England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales - each with it's own unique national charm. It is an island country - with the largest island being Great Britain (England). At 700 miles in length and 300 miles in width - plan on allowing as much time as you can to explore all this great "island" has to offer.

Dales Holiday Cottages has over 600 cottages available to book online throughout the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire Moors, Yorkshire Coast and Wolds, the Derbyshire Dales, Northumbria, the Northern Dales, the Lake District, Cumbria and Eden Valley, the Scottish Borders and the Highlands of Scotland.

The word dale comes from a Nordic/Germanic word for "valley" and the UK has some of the most beautiful dales in the world!

Dales' Scotland Cottages web site has a range of almost 100 personally inspected holiday cottages located in some of the most scenic areas of Scotland. From the Borders to the Highlands; from rugged mountains to lush valleys; Scotland has much to offer you.

Many of the cottages available in from Dales accept pets and in some locations - free of charge. This will most likely not be applicable to many travelers from the US to the UK since getting a pet into the country is not an easy task.

Our UK country vacation focuses on just three of the exciting destinations awaiting you - with cottages to rent, and much to see - off the beaten path...

    Cumbria, UK

Formed from what was three separate counties, England's second largest county in size is Cumbria.

Cumbria incorporates the Lake District National Park, an area some 30 miles across, containing England's highest mountains, and some of it's biggest lakes. A large portion of the county is owned and/or managed by the National Trust - ensuring the gorgeous scenery for future generations.

Yorkshire Dales National Park An area near Cumbria in Northern England, most of the Yorkshire Dales falls within the 680 square-mile Yorkshire Dales District National Park. The characteristic scenery of the Dales is green upland pastures separated by dry-stone walls and grazed by sheep and cattle.

Due to the area's limestone, caves are prevalent and many are open to the general public for exploration.

This park even has its own museum, the Dales Countryside Museum and five visitor centres located in major destinations in the park.

Eilean Donan Castle, Dornie near Kyle of Lochalsh The Scottish Highlands are the perfect choice country vacation for those seeking a little solitude and sensory rest in an over-crowded and noisy world. The Highlands are generally sparsely populated, with many mountain ranges dominating the region, including the highest mountain in the British Isles, Ben Nevis.

Before the 19th century the Highlands were home to a much larger population. However, a combination of factors including the outlawing of the traditional Highland way of life and mass migration to urban areas during the Industrial Revolution, leaves the area as one of the most sparsely populated in Europe.

One of the hardest things to do when planning a vacation is to decide where to go and what to do.

For some, getting stuck in a vacation rut also seems to be a problem. "We went there before and had an OK time so we'll just go there again." Don't let yourself get stuck in that rut.

Whether you are taking the vacation of a lifetime or planning a trip for next year, web sites like Luxury Link provide a whole world of exciting opportunities for luxury travel with sometimes nearly unbelievable savings.
